IDMC-15: One Chapter Closes, Another Already Begin

For five days, Saguenay served as a meeting point for an international community dedicated to advancing research on myotonic dystrophy.
With more than 400 participants and 230 presentations, the time has come to say thank you and, above all, to look ahead.
IDMC-15: One Chapter Closes, Another Already Begin

Because the success of a scientific congress is not measured solely by the number of presentations or attendees. It is also reflected in what continues afterward: the conversations that endure, the collaborations that take shape, the new questions that emerge, and the ideas that participants carry home with them.

And in that regard, you have given us much to build on for the future.

We Heard You!

Throughout the discussions and feedback gathered during IDMC-15, several priorities and themes emerged clearly.

Many of you emphasized the importance of strengthening the connection between research and clinical practice: enhancing understanding of the clinical relevance of scientific discoveries, accelerating their translation into patient care, and continuing discussions surrounding clinical trials.

You reminded us that the myotonic dystrophy community is broad and diverse, with needs spanning DM1 and DM2, pediatric populations, cognitive impairments, balance and mobility issues, exercise, and primary care, to name a few.

Most importantly, however, you expressed a desire to move beyond discussing collaboration and toward actively building it.

You called for workshops and working sessions designed to foster new international collaborations. You asked for dedicated spaces to collectively explore how research can become more collaborative. You highlighted the value of bringing together expertise, disciplines, and perspectives around concrete scientific and clinical questions.

These ideas will travel with us to Valencia, Spain, where the next edition of IDMC will continue this conversation and, we hope, create new opportunities to work together in innovative ways.

Until then, thank you.

Thank you to all participants, patient partners, speakers, poster presenters, committee members, partners, sponsors, volunteers, and organizations representing individuals living with myotonic dystrophy.

Thank you for sharing your expertise, your questions, your ideas, and your energy, and for making #IDMC15 much more than a conference.

Thank you to everyone who shared pictures and comments.
Please find attached the HR mosaic for download!

The next chapter is already underway.
Valencia, here we come. 🇪🇸

Stay tuned: the first announcements regarding the next edition will be shared in the coming months.

See you soon!
